One part of the Custer story that doesn't seem to get mentioned that often is the faithfulness of Elizabeth Custer.
Elizabeth married George Armstrong Custer during the Civil War. They would remain married for twelve years, and she would often take part in various aspects of his military career.
Even after George's death, Elizabeth seemed to have a love for her husband. She would go on to author a number of books that included depictions of him. Although she could have remarried, she apparently decided not to.
While Elizabeth has been written about for a number of reasons, her faithfulness to her husband may be one of the most noteworthy aspects of her life. Indeed, it speaks to who she was as a person. In light of this, she certainly seems to have had a special kind of quality about her.
