Born on this date in 1779, Thomas Birch was an American painter who painted famous marine works (one of which hung in the John F. Kennedy White House).
Along with some beautiful still lifes like "Apples In a Brown Hat" and "Still Life With Peaches and Pears", he also created numerous winter paintings like the popular "Sleigh Ride" (shown above). His self portrait is a work worth noting as well.
