Custer, 7th Cvlry leave Ft. Lincoln to force Indians onto reservations
On this date in history, Lt. Col. George Custer and the 7th Cavalry depart from Ft. Lincoln. Though some members of the 7th Cavalry would return, Custer would never see Ft. Lincoln or his wife Elizabeth (pictured above) again. For in little over a month, Custer and the 7th would face several tribes of Plains Indians forming the largest gathering of Indians the white man had ever witnessed. This would all take place along the Little Bighorn River in Montana.
