Yankees host Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day
The event was held on this day in history at the old Yankee stadium to honor Lou Gehrig. Lou Gehrig had announced his retirement due to his battle with ALS or "Lou Gehrig's Disease". In between doubleheader games, a ceremony was held during which Gehrig delivered his now famous "Luckiest Man In The World" speech. Babe Ruth was in attendance and at the close of the speech Ruth went over and hugged him while the band played "I Love You Truly" and the crowd chanted "We Love You, Lou."
