U.S. Federal Credit Rating Downgraded
Today in history, the US governments federal credit rating was downgraded by S&P for the first time. The AAA rating was changed to AA+. Other credit rating agencies would also downgrade their rating of the U.S.' credit. These downgrades were reportedly due to the GDP vs. the national deficit.

The Obama administration at the time was very critical of the decision by S&P, and some Republican and Democrats blaming each other (and in the Republicans case the Pres. Obama as well).
