On this date in 1914, Clayton Moore was born. He would ride into the hearts and minds of the American youth in the 1950s when he portrayed "The Lone Ranger" on television and in film. The television program was hugely popular and was nominated for an Emmy.
His most famous line: "Hi-Ho Silver, Away!" was delivered as he rode his trusty stead "Silver" off into the sunset with Tonto riding "Scout" beside him.
Although there have been numerous attempts to resurrect The Lone Ranger since Moore's portrayal, none have met with the success his portrayal garnered.
