United States Constitution Adopted By The Constitutional Convention
On this date in history 1787, the United States' Constitutional Convention adopted it's current constitution. This document is the "law of the land". One point that causes it to stand out is that it designates and describes three branches of government and their roles. The notion of "checks and balances" was worked into the constitution in order to keep any one branch from having too much power. The constitution is seen by numerous respected minds as one of the greatest documents ever written for human governance.
