Gen. Washington makes camp at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania
Washington's army would spend the winter at Valley Forge. The winter spent here became infamous as harsh weather and lack of supplies brought sickness, frostbite, and death. The troops not only had inadequate food but poor clothing as well. Some had no shoes and their tracks left footprints of blood in the white snow. Yet, the army survived the winter and would continue the war-effort in the spring.
